10 Reasons John Hughes should direct my life

John Hughes is the quintessential teen movie director, but to me he is so much more than that. Hughes is someone that I aspire towards in all his mullet haired glory because he truly knew what it was to create a film from the heart, an art of understanding the outcasts and the beauty that they have.
He was the iconic father of teen films that are at the heart of 80's teenage angst and this quote is basically the definition of how unique and delightful he is; I always preferred to hang out with the outcasts, 'cause they were cooler; they had better taste in music, for one thing, I guess because they had more time to develop one with the lack of social interaction they had!" .
So, here are the definitive reasons why John Hughes should direct my life:

1  Spontaneous dance sequences happen on a regular occurrence, who wouldn't want a choreographed declaration of love (Pretty in Pink) , friendship (Ferris Bueller's day off) or just for the heck of it (Breakfast Club) .

2 The Fashion. Seriously, my best friend and I are always on the look out in vintage shops for Ringwald-esque dresses and (thankfully) we have never come close to the finale Pretty in Pink dress but at least there are some sole examples of a flawless wardrobe that would feature in  my life.

3 The quirky best friend would always be a welcome addition to my life, Hughes always created the most swell friendships and they always have the best advice and know the other person like nothing else. Iona from Pretty in Pink, she is always sassy and she always looks fabulous.*Additional Cameron Fry love because he comes a close second.

4 The Comebacks. Lets be honest, if i lived in a world of John Hughes i would be the queen of all comebacks not a stuttering jumble of insults. This takes inspiration from the essence of cool that is John Bender.*Ferris because he is just so choice!

5 The Romantic gestures. Freeze frame moments are the most delightful declarations of love and would become a regular occurrence. I don't think I know anyone that wouldn't want John Bender punching his fist in the air because he got you. *Also, some  Keith from 'Some kind of Wonderful' because he is so darn smooth.

6 Not having a boyfriend would just mean creating one (Weird Science), which is a dream for my introverted self and the fact that he would teach me some important life lessons along the way.

7 Being Home Alone would be the best adventure ever, which in reality involves sitting in my pj's all day and binge watching Twin Peaks.

8 Relatives coming to stay would be a mixture of the worst, utter hilarity and inhuman amounts of food (Uncle Buck) and family holidays got a lot more interesting.

9 The Soundtrack to my life would be the amazing, it would be the greatest to have 'Don't you forget about me' as you walk down the hall at the end of the day or 'Twist and Shout' as you get up in the morning.

10 Everyone would be forever referencing me because lets be honest, my life directed by John Hughes would be utterly wonderful.

Finding my Voice

This post was inspired by Nick Drake's rather lovely song 'One of these things first'
I could be
Yours so true
I would be
I should be
Through and through
I could have been
One of these things first
The beauty of this inspiration that i felt even though Nick Drake is a stranger to me he wrote something that speaks so much into my life within this world it's so easy to overlook the simple unity which words can bring fro stranger to stranger.                                                               In this way i want this blog to bring together similar voices through the words i write although these lyrics flawlessly describe how despite everything the words that i write is still mouldable, unformed, murmer of the voice that I want to become.                                                      This journey is the uncharted territories of writing to discover the loud shout of my heart and by doing this I feel like I let go of tiny fragments of myself to others. This is what makes writing so perilous is that your writing is your heart and people can see the inner workings of you; the flaws, the anger and the delicate beauty.
For me, writing is about sharing all of these aspects of myself that i cannot speak out and having the courage to step out and say; this is all of me.
