Not fade away

Memories...remnants of the events that have settled in our minds, it's something that will always hold us because nostalgia is always an alternative that so many people cling too. I always get little daydreams of the memories that seem like forever ago, which makes me feel just so bittersweet.
 But, we should never let nostalgia take over the now, by preserving the memories of who we once were- we can look back at the journey we have made. These awkward, embarrassing, hurtful or happy reminiscence are the contour lines of our stories- they do not define us.
Memories are dangerous though, however hauntingly beautiful we should treat them as exactly what they are-the past that allows us to start anew, don't use the past to escape the present.                                                   Rick Warren puts it perfectly;                       "Remember how far you've come,                                                                                                                  not just how far you have to go.                                                                                                           You are not where you want to be,                                                                                                          but neither are you where you used to be".
We should not hold our past hostage but leave it where it belongs and once in a while when an old schoolbook or photograph is found and the familiar feelings of looking back rise up, we shouldn't hold it heavy in our hearts but know that all that is left is the future and the fragments of the past should remain in the old drawer of photographs.

This song was on repeat whilst I was writing this post, it's just so winsome and beautiful;
